Sherborne Art Class

The Sherborne art class is due to start on the 15th of April 2008 and will be held on Tuesday evenings at the Digby hall. The terms will run for a period of 10 weeks, divided into two 5 week half terms. Providing a range of professional models each week, the class will offer the opportunity to develop your drawing or painting through the study of the head and the figure. You'll be introduced to a number of principles that will help you depict the likeness and character of a sitter and the many approaches to representing the human form. Open to all abilities with supporting worksheets to aid learning. Come along and experience how rewarding successful portrait and figure drawing can really be.

  • Dates: Aug 26- Sept 23

Tuesday Night Sketch Group

The Tuesday night sketch group is a drop in session open to all and offers a chance to draw and paint the figure during a series of short and long poses alternating weekly. The evenings always begin with quick "warm ups" that concentrate on gesture, rhythm and dynamic movement. These are then extended for a longer period during the latter part of the class, with the longest lasting no more than 30 minutes during the quick sketch sessions and a single pose for the remainder during long sessions.

The class is informal and fun, an excellent opportunity to meet other artists and improve upon your drawing in a relaxed and creative environment. The class returns on the 9th January 2007 and each term will consist of 10 sessions followed by a 3 week break running all the way up until December.

Please contact either Ann Hopkins on 01722 321019 or Ann Dawkins on 07736 731471 for further details.

All levels of ability are welcome and tuition will be complemented by demonstrations if required. If it's simply access to professional models and dynamic poses that you require, without the tuition, then this is also an ideal class for you.

Saturday/Sunday Workshops

New workshop venues now include Gillingham and Sherborne.

Our monthly Saturday workshops allow for longer and more elaborate set-ups using experienced models with the benefits of dynamic direct lighting. To date we have held numerous workshops all of which have been very well received, bringing together artists of all abilities who all realise the benefits of a class of this nature.

Informal tuition and demonstrations are available if required. We hope that through the combination of a creative environment, diverse poses from a range of models and contact with other artists all brought together for the same reason there is something to be gained by all.

New for 2008 is a session we refer to as "gesture//". Unlike the life class it's core aim is to offer artists tha chance to draw the human figure in movement and dynamic action. We hope to present a range of energetic sessions that offer something quite different to anything else available.

The workshops are open to all abilities, from beginner to the more experienced. Places will be limited so booking is advisable. A discount of 20% is available if you book for both the gesture// and life session in any given month.
