Line&Form was established in October 2004 by artists Sean Slater and Jonathan Tetley in order to promote life drawing with an emphasis on accuracy, dynamism, expression and structure. As a discipline it has many applications beyond the immediately obvious, it is an essential skill for painters, animators, fashion designers, concept and storyboard artists and sculptors to name but a few. Since it's conception line&form have gone on to offer a number of successful workshops, courses and weekly classes in and around the Salisbury area that have covered a range of subjects.
The classes were developed with the express aim of providing access to live models within a creative workspace, enabling artists to develop and expand their own visual language through the study of line, tone, rhythm and form. They are structured in such a way as to promote two of the key elements of life drawing; observation and expression. We offer the opportunity to explore freedom and economy of line through quick poses as well as more careful observation of tone and form either through drawing or painting during longer sittings.
Both the workshops and classes have been designed to help those who’ve perhaps had a break get back into drawing. It’s a great start for beginners who would like to explore their creativity with guidance and support on hand. They also offer a great studio environment for the more accomplished who would just like access to a model or want to hone and develop their skills. Whichever applies there is something for all.
The principle of group learning is also an important part of the methodology behind the class, allowing students the opportunity to experience many different approaches and working practices through contact with their peers.
